Brad's motorcycle diaries!

Brad from "Don't Tell Me What's Wrong With Me, I Already Know" blog, has a great motorcycle diary from his recent trip to Europe. It is a very exciting account of a group of Americans riding through Western Europe. I like how he explains, "twisties." It sounded like a wonderful trip and it improved my view of Europeans immensely. I guess they don't all hate us.

They definitely do not all hate us. Quite the contrary. Most of them were quite friendly and willing to help out in any way they could.

That's not to say that they like everything the U.S. does, though. I try to find out about them, rather than tell them how great we are. I think that is what really pisses them off.

Thanks for the kudos...glad you enjoyed the read.

Have you been in Europe, -Brad? I didn't see you! (Well, just kidding.) Ok, I read a time ago an interesting article in which the author wrote, more or less, that we Europeans use to love the part of America that we know: the popular culture, the people, the arts, this kind of things; and we Europeans use to hate (it is not my case, needless to say) the part which is narrated by third parts (you know, pseudo-intellectuals, politics, and mass media). I mean, a lot of Europeans hate instinctively USA as an abstract country described by quite obvious anti Americans, but they like the concrete part of America with which they relation by themselves. I don’t know if I’ve been clear enough, hmm...

I think I understand you J.Doe, I hate the French in the same way. I love French movies and food and fashions, but I don't like the French in an abstract way, for an indefinable reason.

That's right.

(And French are not my favorite neighbors, believe me.)
