In Iraq we are trying to plant good seeds in bad soil!

That about sums it up perfectly. Too bad we didn't know about the bad soil before the war.

Yes, I was wrong and the liberals were right when they said the Iraqis weren't ready for Democracy.

you're being sarcastic, right? Despite our MSM openly shilling for the enemy, there is lots of progress being made there.

Well anon is right with regards to the Kurds. They are the only ones for whom the war was worth it. However, it seems that that may be coming to an end as the Sunni (I think) bring their lovely brand of violence to them too.

No, the Kurds may be on our side but they still beat the unholy hell out of their women!

Yeah, I don't doubt it. I was in the family room while my daughter was watching the Buster Baxter show about 6 months ago or so. So I watched part of it too. Buster was visiting with a Kurdish American family and the children's dad was in Iraq acting as an interpreter for the Americans. What was interesting and disturbing was that the females in the family prepared the meals, but when it came time to eat they all had to wait for the males to finish before they could start. So the boys and men ate first while the girls and women just sat patiently and watched and waited for them to finish. Then they were allowed to eat. This was explained to us as a Kurdish custom. The children were all American born and the custom continued. I think that North America really isn't the place for people who devalue women to such an extent. In my part of the world we have had 6 or 7 Sikh women murdered by their "loving" husbands or partners in less than 1 year (Well, one was blinded. The bullet didn't kill her, but it is still lodged in her head). What can we do?

Like my ex used to say, "If women didn't have pussies, there'd be bounties on their heads!"

The Hmong are similar in the "men eat first" meme. Minnesota has I think the largest Hmong population outside of Laos. Something like that. Female Hmong co-worker explained this to me, but she said that times they were a-changin' and that Hmong women don't put up with that crap so much anymore.

My point is that while that "lovely" cultural practice may persist in the old country (whichever one it may be), things change when they come here. It may take a generation or so, but the awesome cultural power of the Great Satan has a way of equalizing these sorts of things.

I am always afraid that the man I am eating with is still hungry. When I was little I used to be scared my dad wasn't getting enough to eat.
